Greetings.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Seoul National University College of Medicine.

Medicine continues to advance, driven by the challenge of overcoming the limitations of healthcare through new technologies. Biomedical engineering brings medicine and engineering together to turn these challenges into practical solutions, creating innovative technologies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease and helping shape the future of healthcare.

Established in 1986 as the first Department of Biomedical Engineering within a medical school in Korea, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Seoul National University College of Medicine has grown alongside the development of biomedical engineering in the country. Today, we are exploring new possibilities in future healthcare through technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, digital healthcare, medical robotics, and advanced biomaterials. In close collaboration with clinical and basic science departments at Seoul National University College of Medicine and Seoul National University Hospital, as well as the College of Engineering, research institutions, and industry partners in Korea and abroad, we conduct research aimed at addressing real-world challenges in clinical practice.

Through translational research spanning basic science to clinical application, we strive to develop innovative medical technologies and devices and to ensure that our research ultimately provides meaningful benefits to patients. We are also committed to educating the next generation of physician-scientists, biomedical engineering researchers, and creative leaders who understand both medicine and engineering through interdisciplinary education that crosses traditional academic boundaries.

Building on more than four decades of tradition and research excellence, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Seoul National University College of Medicine will continue to advance healthcare innovation through world-class research and education. We aspire to grow as a global biomedical engineering community that contributes to improving human health and quality of life.

I hope this website serves as a meaningful platform for learning about our research, education, and vision for the future. We sincerely appreciate your continued interest and support.

Thank you.
